• Client brief The new Biju Janata Dal (BJD) headquarters in Bhubaneswar, designed by Studio Lotus, blends Odisha’s cultural heritage with modern sustainability. The three-storey structure, a shift from the original five-storey plan, maintains a human-scale connection with the community, featuring an elevated ground floor for public functions, a cafeteria, library, and a 360° gallery. The upper floors have open-plan offices and a double-height auditorium. Locally sourced materials like terracotta and Odisha grey granite are used throughout, and the façade features carved reliefs inspired by regional art. Sustainability is key, with rainwater harvesting, solar panels, and climate-responsive features enhancing comfort and efficiency.
